LIQUID MUSIC: JON DUBB

If there is one thing that brings joy to my heart is an Emcee that is a student of the second element to the culture of Hip Hop. Jon Dubb originally hails from Lodi, N.J. but rests in VA Beach, VA. His lyrical skills straight forward and direct with substance and content.

Dubb's album is called Liquid Music. He has a wide range of tracks that hits every aspect in style associated in rap music which makes it solely diverse. Diverse is an attribute many have claimed to posses but in reality fell short. Liquid Music has legendary artists Kool G. Rap, Cappadonna, Canibus, and Nottz Raw. Also, local VA wordsmith Shane Dollar lends a few verses on a few tracks. The heavy boom bap tracks are neck snapping bangers! The track Independently will have you bouncing hard..

Overall, this is as straight as it gets when you have a wide audience covering the four corners of Hip Hop. I look forward to hearing more projects from Jon Dubb.

MISTA GOODBAR: SEASONED VET ALL DAY!!!

Mista Goodbar is one part man and one part machine. A beast of a producer with an unmatched style and sound. His "DJ Mista Goodbar Productions" spit out mixtapes like there's no tomorrow. He's behind GMoney's sound and grip of the South Jersey/Philly independent cats. His production is flawless and it shows. From creating complex high hats to jaw dropping snares. Mista Goodbar has been doing this since the 90's, so there is no way possible one could capture the true essence of his work with words. I'm always in awe of his workmanship and precise technical delivery. You have to see for yourself as to why Mista Goodbar is just that damn good!!!

Scatta Rpee "Da Radar"

YOUNG & GIFTED: JL BEATZ!! (UK STAND UP!!)

JL Beatz hails from London. He's quickly gaining the attention deserved for his production skills and constant work ethics. He has a style all to his own. His production is that of an old soul in a young man's body that has embraced the sounds of yesterday to the modern techniques of today's format. To place this brother's work in a particular category would be inconsiderate and disrespectful to his craft. Check out his work on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/j-lovell-1  JL Beatz is here to make his mark on your playlists and rotations!!!

GODILLA 'S BEAST MODE IS TOP NICHE!!!!

Godilla is a veteran predator who devours the mic like a grizzly bear that just woke up from 100 years of hibernation.  This LP is a who's who of collabs with the mic vet. He also displays why he's viscous in the booth by dropping 4 solo tracks. The album speaks for itself. "It was all about skill / honing your craft / expecting a lottery pick out of the draft..." from the track Lo Pense. THE 757's VETERAN SHOWSTOPPERS: TAKEOVER 757 & THE FLYING GINZU BROTHERS

I was first introduced to rap back in 1978 when I heard a taped recording of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 and the phrases “1-2-1-2” and “yes yes y’all” gave me goose bumps. Then, in 1981, I watched a nation of B’boys and B’girls from the Boogie Down Bronx battle for bragging rights at the Lincoln Center. That battle was between Rock Steady Crew and The Dynamic Rockers. These were two of many key events that set me on a path for the greater good of living and entertaining.

On Tuesday April 30th at 45 Degrees Martini Lounge I witnessed one of the illest performances in my 35 plus years in hiphop. Takeover 757 and Flying Ginzu Brothers embodied the essences of showmanship and pure artistry. There were no special effects, no back up dancers, or unnecessary cats on stage. From the first track to the last track, Takeover 757 torched the entire stage then took it to the floor as if it were a pass the mice cipher.
Usually you’ll find performances where cats flow and lose their breath so they employ the help of hype men. Not in this case!!! Every Emcee performed with high octane energy that could ignite 30 space shuttles. Plus, their breath control is off the radar. No disrespect to the other crews that put it down, but this is solely my opinion. I have not seen a show like that since Wu-Tang Clan ‘92-’93 when no one knew who they were.
                                                               https://www.facebook.com/FlyingGinzuBrothers

The Flying Ginzu Brothers was the cherry on top. They electrified the scene with filling turntable tricks between Takeover’s sets. You could not have asked for a better show than what had taken place at that night. Dope emceeing, turntablism, and crowd participation. That is my definition of a Dope Ass Show!!!

"MA!! THOSE 757 WARRIORS ARE BACK!!"

Hampton Roads area of Virginia consists of 7 cities. Somehow, someway, somewhere, someone decided to form an army of emcees and producers that have one thing in common; they all hate the robotic machine (pop rap industry). The Takeover Camp has managed to fuse 90s style hip hop with today’s flow while representing the essences of the 757 area code. I have difficulty with remembering that last group of artists that can hold their own as individuals. However, they have chosen to group as a strong presence. Takeover’s support for one another is as strong as a 16 member family living under one roof.
Takeover’s newest album, dRugZTape2, solidifies their place in VA’s hip hop. Equipped with tight production from MNTLPLX, SwayeeBoogie (TPA), ScaryHour (TPA), & sick beatsmiths from the camp, the lyricists had no choice but to bring it. They did just that!!!! Takeover Emcees Quamin, Fame P, Jern, Vic Spliff, Steve Be, Omega Redd, Soulsun, Leck, Mike Mo, Dei Majah, King Apocalypse, ManWhut, Leaf Qwembi, Trot, & Rap. They’re all as sick as they came. This album is a MUST HAVE!!

EMCEES MARKING THE 757 TERRITORY WITH SHARP PRECISION!!

CINCINNATI HAS CREATED ANOTHER LANE!!

Lyrically, this album is a throw back to when emcees used to flow with pure honesty and dope stories. I played this album over a dozen times while perfecting the behavior of a "back in the day" listener. Every track stands out with total listening satisfaction. The production is ridiculously serious. Don Johnson is a true soulful maestro. Cincinnati and the rest of the Hip Hop culture needs to stand up and recognize Grade A artistry. I hope this album reaches the right folks so the world can discover what I know: Ohio is no joke!!!
